Announcement

updateSo, it’s been a while since I posted anything. It wasn’t because I didn’t have the time, although that was part of the reason, part of time. There were several reasons, most of which I won’t get into, but one of the reasons was because I don’t really feel qualified to write reviews. I know almost nothing about musical theory or production, and for the most part I can’t really criticize music or albums because I spend most of the time giggling like the fangirl I am.

But, I want to be able to write reviews. I want to be able to spread my love for K-Pop, by telling people why I love it so much, and the best way I can do that is by writing reviews online.

My favorite reviewer, Nicole from Pops Review Now (on Links page), is putting on a workshop for K-Pop writers over the next month and a half. It’s a great opportunity, and I’m really excited about it. In the mean time, the hiatus will continue until the workshop is over, then I will return and start reviewing in earnest.

If you want to check the workshop out and maybe join, you can find it here.

That’s My Name

MyName

MyName

Here’s one of the Rookies from the end of 2011. While they aren’t as prolific as some of the 2012 rookies, all their music is really catchy and well done, and they have a very recognizable dance style.

Cry

MBLAQ - Cry

MBLAQ – Cry

From a group that debuted before I got into Kpop comes a song that is one of the few songs out there that got me through a rough patch in my life. So despite its shortcomings, it has a bit of a special place in my heart. But aside from that, there’s something to be said about wet Korean men/boys.

Since it’s been almost two years since I first saw this, I can’t really give you anything on how I felt when I first saw it. I was still just getting into Kpop when I found it, so I’m sure there was that sense of wonder, and amazement at how different it was from American music.

Pretty

Airplane - Pretty

Airplane – Pretty

Among the first music videos of the year was a video from a group I hadn’t heard anything from yet. The video had popped up on my Youtube suggestion page, and since it was the beginning of the year I decided to give it a listen, and boy am I glad I did.

Airplane is a three member group that have a bit of an indie feel, and they are definitely not your stereotypical Kpop boyband. And they really make these work for them, because Pretty is a really pretty song.

Sing Me A Ballad

2AM

2AM

Everyone, meet the kings of sad ballads, 2AM. They aren’t as prolific as their brother group, 2PM, but what they do have packs a very powerful emotional punch.

Rain Sound

B.A.P - Rain Sound

B.A.P – Rain Sound

At the start of 2012, a new hip hop group debuted under TS Entertainment. B.A.P, from the beginning, was a group that was more about powerful singing and dancing, very bad boy, I-don’t-care-what-people-think attitude and a very masculine look, which was a nice different from all the lighter groups debuting. Now, almost a year later, B.A.P has come out with their first of the new year, and their sixth music video, and after watching them since before their debut, I’m more than impressed with how for they have come, and everything they have done.

Aaaand We’re Back!

updateWell, it’s been a very long time, dear readers. And now that my life has slowed way down, and I have time to spare again, I decided to restart the website, a little earlier than planned. There’s also going to be a change, a little bit, in how things are done around here. Birthday posts, which had no real purpose anyway, will disappear, and there will be a lot more Review posts, as well as Profiles. As I have a million music videos (exaggeration, but not by much), I plan on doing a lot more of those than anything else. I’m going to shoot for two reviews and one profile a week.  We’ll see how that goes.

If you have any questions or requests, feel free to leave a comment, or email me. And let me just say, welcome back to the Wave!

Sorry, Readers

I know I haven’t updated in a couple of weeks. There are several reasons for this, some of them personal, but the end result is the same; I haven’t posted. And I’ve discovered a fact about myself that I wasn’t too happy to learn. Sort of. Anyway, I figured out, via reading other K-Pop review blogs, that I was not meant to write reviews. I don’t have enough technical knowledge, and I’m too much of a giggly, overly-excited fan girl to really review anything.

On top of this, I don’t have free time anymore. Not even on the weekends. And I’ll be spending 6 weeks in Korea for an immersion program, so that adds to the problem. All in all, I’ve decided to put Hallyu Holla on hiatus for now. At least until I’m done and graduated, which should mid to late spring next year.

I hope I’m not disappointing anyone too much. I’ll try to come on here when I can (minus the 6 weeks in Korea), but I’m not promising anything.

So, until next year, I bid you farewell.
